Rajouri Explosion: Investigation started, samples collected from site

Rajouri: Authorities in Rajouri district Sunday started investigation into the incident of a mysterious explosion in a locality of Maira Chowkian village, which left many vehicles damaged.

Explosion of low to medium intensity took place in the intervening night of Saturday- Sunday at around 11 PM.

“Explosion of mysterious nature took place in the compound of three houses, which belong to the family of a senior cop of the rank of SSP,” the officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

They further said that the site of explosion is also located at a few kilometers from Army’s Romeo Force headquarter.

“The explosion in the compound of houses left three cars and one scooty damaged with window panes of all these cars got broken while splinters entered the bodies of vehicles, thus damaging them from inside also,” officials said.

They further claimed that police, Army and intelligence agency officers camped in the area on Sunday and started investigating the matter.

“Nothing can be said at this moment,” officials said, adding that small rounded steel pellets have been recovered from the spot, which have been seized while all other necessary samples have been collected from the spot.

“The matter is being investigated as such an explosion has left security setup in a tight spot and militancy related aspect in this issue cannot be ruled out,” officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Chandan Kohli said that the explosion was of low intensity and of mysterious nature.
