Two drivers held for managing fake COVID test reports at TRC: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police Wednesday said that it arrested two drivers for managing fake COVID-19 test reports at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC).

According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), police spokesman said that on 15/09/2020 Police Station Kothibagh received a complaint to the effect that the complainant along with family were intending to proceed towards Jammu.

“On reaching TRC, they enquired from drivers of TRC namely Omkar Singh, son of Sardar Thakur Singh of Nawabbagh Jammu (Driver of Vehicle No JK03D-4447) and Nazir Ahmad Khanday, son of Abdul Khaliq of Bemina Srinagar (Driver of Vehicle No JK01AL-3612) about travel norms and the complainant also stated that they have not underwent COVID-19 test. The drivers asked them to provide their Aadhar Cards and so they will arrange for them a health team for COVID testing,” spokesman said.

The complainant provided Aadhaar cards and after 15 minutes, the drivers provided them COVID-19 test reports with COVID negative results, the statement said, adding that the complainant asked them without taking samples how they managed COVID-19 negative result.

“After preliminary enquiry, the said drivers are cheating people and putting the lives of public in great danger by managing the fake reports and emerging instrumental in the spread of COVID-19 disease,” police said, adding that on this information, a case under FIR number 73/2020 under section 420, 468, 269 IPC stands registered in Police Station Kothibagah and investigation taken up.

“During the course of investigation, both the drivers have been arrested and on their personal search some COVID-19 reports with negative results have been recovered from their procession. The motive behind the crime is being ascertained and the investigation of the case is going on,” police said.

Srinagar Police appealed the public that to visit only government approved laboratories for the COVID-19 tests and be aware of the imposters and fraudsters, as a single mistake can open the ways for the spread of the COVID-19 virus—(KNO)
