Article 370 must be fought politically: NC leader Basharat Bukhari

Says “disappointed from legal means after all accused in Babri demolition set free by CBI spl court

Srinagar: A day after CBIs special court acquitted all 32 persons accused in demolition of Babri Masjid, National Conference (NC) senior leader and former minister Syed Basharat Bukhari on Thursday said that petitions filed before the Supreme Court (SC) to challenge the decisions taken on August 5, 2019 should be withdrawn.
Bukhari, in a tweet said, “High time for J&K political parties/individuals to withdraw cases viz Article 370/35(A) after today’s verdict. It is better to fight politically rather having chapter closed by the court”.
However party has attributed the tweet as a personal opinion of Bukhari.
“A party leader has expressed his personal opinion and it should not be attributed as party’s stance”, party spokesperson has said.
He added “Yesterday’s decision has brought hopelessness and Bukhari’s resentment was on expected lines. But comments are purely personal and have nothing to do with party’s point of view”.
Notably New Delhi on August 5, 2019 abolished special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Articles 370 and 35(A) and downgraded the erstwhile state into two Union Territories – J&K and Ladakh. However the move stoked anger enmass after which several political parties except BJP decided to fight the decision democratically.
Several mainstream political outfits including NC, PDP, CPI(M), ANC, PUF and others had avowed to contest the decision politically and legally and have unanimously signed a joint declaration – Gupkar Declaration – and affirmed that the political and legal fight would continue till special status of J&K is not restored.
