Kupwara: Two soldiers were killed and four others sustained injuries in an unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in Nowgam sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, defence officials said today.

Defence spokesman in Srinagar, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in Nowgam sector in Kupwara today morning by firing mortars and other weapons. “Two soldiers fatal. Four soldiers injured who are being evacuated. Befitting reply being given,” he told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

The fresh casualities to the army comes on a day when it lost a soldier in Mankote sector of Poonch in the heavy exchange of firing. Locals of Kupwara told KNO that panic has gripped the entire district as huge sounds of explosions are being heard intermittently. “It started since morning.

We heard heavy sounds of loud bangs and since then ground shaking explosions are taking place in Nowgam sector,” a group of villagers said. Pertinently, this year so far, 1900 CFVs have taken place which is highest since past three years—(KNO)
