Srinagar: Asserting that there is no place for violence in the land of Sufi saints, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that militants and their supporters will not be spared in the Union Territory.
“The administration and the people of J&K will not bow down to the militants. If some people want to create an atmosphere of fear in J&K on the behest of the neighbouring country, I would like to tell them that there is no place for violence in the UT anymore. The people also want peace as scores of families have been divested,” the LG said while addressing a function in south Kashmir on Sunday.
He said some people for their vested interest have ruined the future of a generation of youths. “The need of the hour is that J&K should also change in accordance with the change experienced by India and the rest of the world,” Mr Sinha said.
The LG also thanked the civil society for playing its role in ensuring peace and prosperity in Kashmir valley. “Militants and their supporters will not be spared at any cost,” he added.
He said that this place belongs to Sufi saints and there is no place for violence. “Any sort of violence is against the path shown by God,” he said.
Sinha also condemned the militant attack that left a policeman dead in south Kashmir district of Kulgam last evening. “I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on the security force in Kulgam in which our brave police jawan, Nisar Ah Wagay attained martyrdom,” he said.
He said the sacrifice made by Nisar will not go in vain and also assured the family of the policeman of every possible help.
Talking to reporters, he said many youth in the valley have proved their metal in competitive examinations over the years. “Such youth will be role models for others and will inspire them to excel in life,” he added.
Answering a question, he said many programs are being conducted every day to engage and motivate youth in Kashmir valley. “We have been organizing programs from early morning till late evening every day… If people want, we will hold programs during the night as well,” he added.
