Intensify operations against militants, their support system, DGP to officers

Srinagar: Stressing the need for intensifying operations against militants and their support system, Director General of Police (DGP)Dilbagh Singh on Saturday directed officers to revisit security plans as ultras are always looking for soft targets in order to create disturbances.
The J&K police chief Singh said Pakistan and its agencies are making efforts to send militants into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) to disturb peace.
Reviewing security scenario at Kulgam in south Kashmir and Kupwara a frontier district, DGP directed the officers to keep a strict watch on the suspicious elements and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) who are providing any kind of support to militant activities.
He directed the officers to revisit the security plans as militants, in order to create disturbance, are looking for soft targets and stressed for counter strategies and preventive measures. He emphasized upon the officers to remain extra alert and ordered a series of counter measures to prevent the yesterday like unfortunate incidents.
Militants killed a Cop and a labourer from Bihar in Kulgam district on Friday evening.
Mr Singh assured that protecting the lives of people is our prime concern and every attempt of the Anti-National Elements (ANE) to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the UT would be dealt with firmly.
He directed the officers to intensify the operations against militants and their support network and stressed that ultras involved in the yesterday killings should be brought to justice very soon. The DGP directed the officers to augment the security of vulnerable targets and places. He emphasized for putting in use the latest technology in monitoring the movement of suspicious elements.
DGP Singh reiterated the importance of maintaining close synergy between the J&K Police and other agencies to meet the security challenges in the UT. He said that killing of infiltrators in the recent past at various borders areas are the indicators that Pakistan and its agencies are making continuous attempts to disturb peace by pushing militants here and stressed upon the offices to maintain alertness on the borders and the hinterland to check the movement of anti-peace elements.
During the meetings the officers briefed the DGP regarding the counter measures in response to the present security scenario and strategies to track down the militants in their respective districts, a police spokesman said this afternoon.
Earlier, he alongwith other senior officer paid floral tributes to martyr Bantu Sharma at Kulgam who was killed by militants last evening. In the afternoon he visited the family of martyr Sub Inspector Arshid Ahmad Mir at Handwara. Mir was killed by militants on September 12 in Srinagar.
DGP expressed solidarity with the bereaved family of Arshid and prayed for the eternal peace of the fallen hero who gave supreme sacrifice of his life while on duty. While interacting with the family of the martyr he said that the whole Police Pariwar stands with the bereaved family of martyr and shares their grief and sorrow. He assured that every support would be provided to the family.
