DC Srinagar warns to impose restriction if violation of COVID SOPs continues

Srinagar: Concerned over daily surge in COVID-19 positive cases, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar warned that administration will impose restrict lockdown if people fail to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
Srinagar alone recorded 92 COVID positive cases out of total 153 witnessed in the Kashmir valley on Sunday.
Officials said that DC, Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) conducted surprise check in several areas in the civil lines and other business hubs on Monday.
A number of areas are continuously violating COVID SOPs, he said and warned to impose restrictions again. However, he said, the administration cannot punish entire district for violation of some areas.
During the checking many malls and business establishments besides some small traders were seen violating COVID SOPs.
Mr Asad said some shops for violating the COVID Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) were sealed during the checking. The drive will continue, he said adding if people will continue to violate SOPs and number of positive cases surge we will be left no alternative but to take strict action.
A UNI correspondent who visited a number of areas in the city saw majority people moving around without wearing masks. However, people traveling in vehicles were seen wearing masks but without any social distancing.
