Phagwara: The City police has registered a case under section 469/500/505/120B of IPC and 67 Information Technology Act against four media persons (running news portal).
The case was registered against Hardip, Vinod, Kuldip and Amar on a complaint lodged by Journalist Club Phagwara President Hari Pal and Vice-President Amit Ohri on charges of defaming media fraternity by telecasting/playing fake news against a journalist (without quoting any name) on social media and
news portals.
Club Members alleged that the accused had levelled charges against a journalist (no name mentioned) for committing corruption/fraud to the tune of Rs 16 lakhs.
Confirming it, Kapurthala SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the case was registered only after detailed investigations by Phagwara SP Sarabjit Bahia and advice of District Attorney (Legal). The police are investigating the matter in detail.
The SSP appealed to the entire media-persons to work with responsibility and maintain transparency.
