New Delhi: Delhi government on Wednesday issued a notice to the World Health Organisation’s headquarters here for alleged non-adherence to the 14 point pollution control charter enforced in the national capital.
The notice directed the headquarters to follow all the directions specified in the charter within two days, failing to which, a hefty fine would be imposed.
The notice was issued after a surprise inspection by Environment Minister Gopal Rai where he spotted a heap of sand kept uncovered at an under-construction part of the WHO building.
“A partial non-compliance to the guidelines was detected at the site. A warning notice has been issued with a deadline to follow the norms completely within two days else, a fine would be imposed by Delhi Pollution Control Committee,” Rai said.
The environment ministry has started the anti-dust campaign in the city to curb the dust pollution emanating into Delhi’s atmosphere.
Rai informed that the 522 construction sites have been inspected so far during the campaign wherein non-compliance to the pollution control norms was found at 165 sites attracting a cumulative fine of Rs 53.5 lakh.
“We have constituted 15-20 teams which are visiting the under-construction sites and forcing the construction agencies to comply with anti-pollution norms. Violators are warned and a fine is also imposed upon them,” he added.
