BJP slams Kejriwal for now seeking permission to allow Chhath Puja in Delhi

New Delhi: BJP on Thursday took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying “finally bowed down under pressure” as he sought permission from Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to allow Chhath Puja in the city just days after the saffron party demonstrated on the same issue outside his residence.

The saffron party tweeted, “Under the pressure of BJP, Chief Minister Kejriwal finally had to bow down. Delhi BJP stands with the people of Purvanchal and will not allow any kind of injustice to happen to them.”

BJP’s reaction came after Kejriwal wrote to the Lieutenant Governor on Thursday, urging him to allow the Chhath Puja festival at public places in the national capital.

“I have urged Hon’ble LG to allow Chhath pooja celebrations in Delhi. Corona is now in control and many other states have allowed it,” Kejriwal tweeted this morning

Terming the AAP government’s approach as “anti-Hindu”, the BJP has vowed “to expose the truth” and “not allow any kind of injustice to the people”.

On Tuesday BJP had staged a protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence against a ban on the celebration of Chhath Puja in the national capital.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in its order on September 30 prohibited Chhath Puja celebrations at public places, including riverbanks, water bodies and temples, in view of the Covid-19 situation.

On Tuesday, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia wrote to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya urging him to draft protocols and issue directions for Chhath celebrations this year, so that people could celebrate the festival.

On September 30, DDMA prohibited Chhath Puja celebrations even as it allowed other celebrations like Dussehra, Ramlila, and Durga Puja.

The decision to ban Chhath Puja celebrations was not taken by the Delhi government, but the DDMA.

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal is the chairperson of DDMA and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is the vice-chairperson.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari was injured on Tuesday during a protest march outside the CM residence against the DDMA order as the BJP rallied for the key festival of the Purvanchal population.
