More rains in plains & snow on higher reaches in J&K

Srinagar: More moderate to light rains lashed plains while higher reaches accumulated snow in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, sun appeared Monday afternoon much to the delight of the people after wintery conditions prevailed in the valley during the past two days. The MeT office has forecast of improvement in the overall weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said , the weather is expected to remain dry from October 19 to 22 added that there is no forecast of any major rain or snow for the next one week.
Rains continued to lash plains while higher reaches amassing more light snow in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
Official sources said upper reaches of Kashmir valley including Sadhna top in frontier Kashmir district .of Kupwara in north Kashmir, tourist resort of Sonamarg and Zojila pass on Srinagar Laddakh highway experienced fresh light snowfall Monday. Besides other higher catchments of Kashmir Himalayas experienced more snow since Sunday.
They said authorities in Bandipora in north Kashmir suspended vehicular traffic along the Bandipora-Gurez road due to fresh snowfall in parts of Gurez and Razdan top.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir received rainfall of 33.2 mm and recorded a minimum temperature as low as 2.6 degree Celsius against the 5.0 degree Celsius Sunday , the official said.
Many roads and low lying areas in parts of Srinagar were water logged due to the incessant rains since morning. However, weather improved Monday noon after with sun appearing much to the relief from the wintery cold conditions prevailing since past two days in the valley.
Srinagar received a rainfall of 14.8 mm in 24 hours till 0830 hours while minimum temperature settled at 11.0°C against 11.3°C on previous night, a MeT official said. Similarly Qazigund had 14.8mm of rain and recorded minimum of 10.6°C, Picturesque of Pahalgam witnessed 11.8mm of rain during the same time and the minimum temperature settled there at 8.5°C, he said.
He said , Kokernag, in south Kashmir received 13.0 mm of rain and recorded a minimum temperature of 9.8° degree celsius while Kupwara had 13.2 mm of rain and recorded a low 8.3 degree Celsius temperature during Sunday night, the official said.
