BJP announces 30 more candidates for Punjab

New Delhi:Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday issued two lists of candidates for Punjab, announcing names for 30 more seats. Former union minister and present chairperson of National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Vijay Sampla will fight election from Phagwara. National Commission for Minorities chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura will fight election from Rupnagar or Ropar. Fatehjang Singh Bajwa, a sitting MLA who quit the Congress and joined BJP recently, will fight from Batala. From Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi’s seat Chamkaur Sahib, the BJP has fielded Dashan Singh Shivjot. The third list for Punjab, released on Thursday evening, named Ram Chawla the candidate from Amritsar Central, Jagmohan Singh Raju from Amritsar East and Sardar Manjit Singh Manna from Baba Bakala seat. BJP announced its first list of 34 candidates for Punjab on January 21. With this, the party has announced 64 candidates for Punjab. BJP has said it will fight on 65 seats in Punjab. BJP’s allies Captain Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress will fight on 37 seats and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s Akali Dal will fight on 15 seats.
