Iran reports 11,731 new Covid cases

Tehran: Iran’s health ministry on Saturday reported 11,731 new Covid-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 6,322,183. The pandemic also claimed 24 lives in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the virus to 132,380, said the ministry. A total of 6,098,675 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 1,362 remained in intensive care units, it added. By Saturday, 60,640,498 Iranians have received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 53,961,998 two jabs, and 16,441,981 three shots. A total of 44,607,091 coronavirus tests have been carried out in the country. On Dec. 19, Iran reported its first case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
