CBI arrests two Customs officials in bribery case

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested two Customs officials including Superintendent from Bihar’s Motihari for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50 thousand from a complainant. The agency had received a complaint against two officials, a Superintendent of Customs and a Computer Operator, regarding demanding the bribe from the complainant. On this basis, a case was registered against them, said CBI spokesperson. The complainant alleged that both were demanding bribe of Rs 90,000, which was 30 per cent of seizure value of goods (Rs 3 lakh) which was seized on December 31 last year by Motihari Customs Office and for favourably disposing off the case of the complainant and releasing his seized vehicle, said CBI. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while accepting a bribe of Rs 50 thousand from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused which led to recovery of some incriminating documents.
