Iran urges Saudi to continue talks over normalizing ties

Tehran, Feb 7 (UNI/Xinhua) Saudi Arabia should decide on continuation of talks aimed at normalizing bilateral relations, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said Monday. “We are ready to continue these talks in Baghdad, and its continuation will depend on the decision of Riyadh,” Khatibzadeh said during his weekly press briefing, when asked about the delay in holding the fifth round of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia. He welcomed the Iraqi officials’ efforts to host the talks between Tehran and Riyadh with the aim of resolving disputes which have affected the diplomatic ties between the two neighbors. Following several rounds of talks brokered by Iraq, Iran sent three diplomats to Saudi Arabia last month as a delegation to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to resume their activities in Jeddah after a six-year hiatus. Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran in early 2016 in protest against the attacks on Saudi diplomatic mission in Iran after the Saudi execution of a Shiite cleric. UNI/XINHUA ACL0012
