Labourer from WB shot at by militants in Pulwama

Srinagar: A labourer from West Bengal was shot at and injured in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, police said.

The injured identified as Muneerul Islam, was fired upon at Ugergund Newa Pulwama.

“Terrorists fired upon one outside labourer Muneerul Islam son of Abdul Karim of West Bengal at Ugergund Newa in Pulwama. He has been shifted to district hospital Pulwama where his condition is stated to be stable,” a police spokesman said.

He said the area was later cordoned off to trace the attacker.

Sources said the search operation was later called off in the area after several hours.

J&K Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said militant involved in the attack has been identified.

“The terrorist has been identified and would be brought to justice very soon,” DGP said.

“ If an outside labourer is contributing in Kashmir, and earns for himself, is it a crime? Under which religion or policy will you justify targetting such a person?” he asked.

Last month, on August 4, a quilt weaver from Bihar was killed and two other non-locals were injured in a grenade attack at Gadoora area of Pulwama.

This year militants have carried out a series of attacks on non-locals and minorities in Kashmir. A total of 14 civilians and six security forces personnel have been killed in targeted attacks this year.
