JPDCL to install over 2.5L smart meters in Jammu City in next 5 months: Official

Jammu:  The Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) on Thursday said that more than 2.5 lakhs smart meters will be installed in next five months in the Jammu city.
“It is the endeavor of JPDCL to install more than 2.5 lakhs smart meters in the next five months,” a senior JPDCL official said.
He added that as an incentive to the Smart Meters area, the JPDCL has completely stopped the scheduled curtailment in the areas where smart meters have been installed, adding, “a total of more than 92,000 smart meters have been installed in various areas of Jammu City.”
Notably, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme more than eight lakh smart meters and prepaid are proposed to be installed across Jammu region.
“The power supply of all the consumers under domestic, commercial and industrial category who have not paid any instalment of electricity bill continuously for three months shall be disconnected automatically with the smart meters,” he added.
He said that the JPDCL is overburdened with huge arrears on account of domestic electricity dues, however under the Amnesty Scheme, more than 80 Crores have been collected and more than 50,000 consumers have already taken benefit of the scheme and all defaulting consumers have been requested to avail the amnesty scheme immediately.
