Widespread rains, snow over higher reaches in J&K during next 2 days: MeT

Srinagar: Meteorological Department on Monday predicted widespread light to moderate rain in the plains and snow over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 48 hours.
Today scattered rain or thunderstorms may occur at many places of Jammu and Kashmir with gradual improvement from afternoon onwards, the MeT office said.
However, it said there could be widespread light to moderate rain or thunderstorm with hailstorm coupled with gusty winds at few places and snow over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during May 2-3.
Brief spell of Rain and thunderstorm at scattered places may occur during the evening from May 4-7, the MeT office said and added that the weather is very likely to remain erratic during the first week of May in Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar recorded a low of 11.3 degree Celsius against 10.5 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 1.6 degree Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar also received 0.4mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours till 0830 hours today.
Qazigund settled at 7.8 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Monday and it was 0.7 degree Celsius below normal for the gateway of Kashmir.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam recorded a low of 4.7 degree Celsius against 2.2 degree Celsius a day ago and it was 0.7 degree below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir.
Kokernag recorded a low of 7.7 degree Celsius against 8.8 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.7 below normal for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 4.0 degree Celsius against 1.0 degree Celsius on previous night and it was 0.3 degree Celsius below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. It also received 0.4mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Kupwara recorded a low of 8.7 degree Celsius against 8.8 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.3 degree Celsius above normal for the north Kashmir area, the MeT office said.
