2 JeM militant associates arrested in Awantipora

Srinagar: Security forces have arrested two militant associates of Jaish-e-Mohammad(JeM) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora sub district, police said on Friday.
They said arms and ammunition was also recovered on their disclosure.
The arrests were made by joint parties of Police, Army and CRPF on Thursday following a specific input.
“Based on a specific input, an operation was carried out on Thursday by joint parties of J&K police, 42 RR, 3 RR & 180 Bn CRPF leading to arrest of two terrorist associates namely Bashir Ahmad and Gulzar Ahmad residents of Tral Awantipora,” a police statement said.
It said on their disclosure, an AK-56 with a magazine and 56 live rounds, four pistols with six magazines and 24 live rounds were recovered.
A case FIR under section of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act was registered in Police Station Tral and investigation was taken up.
Police said the timely arrest and recovery of arms and ammunition has averted militant attacks like targeted killings in Awantipora and adjoining areas, as well as avoided the nefarious designs of JeM to recruit young boys for their illegal or unlawful activities.
