Op ‘Trinetra’: J&K LG lays wreath, pay tributes to bravehearts

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday morning laid wreath and paid tributes to the brave army personnel who made supreme sacrifice in the ongoing operations against terrorists in Kandi forest, Rajouri.

“The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. Grateful nation will always be indebted to their unparalleled valour,” the Lt Governor said.

Senior Army and Police officers also attended the wreath laying ceremony at Air Force Station Jammu.

One terrorist has been neutralised while another likely to be injured in an ensuing gunfight in Rajouri district.

“In the ongoing joint operation in Kandi Forest of Rajouri sector by Indian Army in coordination with police and CRPF this morning at around 0700 hours the cordon while closing in spotted and pinned down the terrorists,” said the Army spokesman.

He said that in the ensuing gunbattle, one terrorist has been neutralised and another is likely to be injured.

As per sources, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh may visit Rajouri encounter site.

The gunfight between trapped terrorists and security forces resumed late midnight.

Northern Command Army Commander, Lieutenant General, Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday morning reviewed the operational situation at ground zero on the ‘Operation Trinetra’ .

He was briefed on all aspects of the operations by ground commanders, he added.

Earlier, he said that contact again was established with terrorists at 0115 hours and firing started.

Five soldiers got martyred including one from Akhnoor are of Jammu and one Major rank officer sustained injuries in an ensuing gunfight on Friday.

Meanwhile security forces recovered one AK-56 Rifle, four magazines of AK-56, 56 rounds of AK, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, three grenades and one ammunition pouch.

“The identity of the neutralised terrorist is being ascertained while the operation is in progress,” said Army offcial.
