New look Polo View market becomes top draw for tourists

Srinagar: Famous Polo view market in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar has been given an all-new look under the Srinagar smart City Project and became an eye-catching attraction for locals and tourists.

The market also became the first ever only pedestrian and wire-free as all lines including electricity and communication cables have been placed underground.

The market represents a mesmerizing view during the evening amid the illuminated tall Chinar trees adding a jewel in the crown to the market.

The market witnesses a huge rush during the evening to enjoy the new look of the market clicking selfies in the background of the market.

The circle type stones and tiles on the floor gives the market an extraordinary look of international standards, a shopkeeper said.

“Polo View High Street, our first completely pedestrian and wire free market in Srinagar city redeveloped under the Srinagar Smart City Project, is getting ready to welcome you”, Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Athar Aamir Khan said.

“Universal access, separate underground sewerage and drainage networks, underground electricity and communication lines, conservation and heritage façade improvement of buildings, public conveniences and public bicycle sharing facilities are all part of it. This street is now exclusively pedestrian”, Khan said.

He said the traffic will ply on the rear side of the Polo View High Street market with adequate parking facilities would be made available.

The market has gained attention from all walks of life and people including tourists in good numbers thronging the street after photographs of the entirely new look market went viral on social media platforms.

The shopkeepers are ecstatic over the beautification of the market and say that tourists and locals are now visiting the place in good numbers. Business has increased.

The market has been spruced up under the Srinagar Smart City Project ahead of G20 Summit going to be held in Srinagar this month.

There are about 125 projects under Srinagar Smart City Project on which work is going on and most of them are likely to be completed by the end of this month.
