Allahabad HC to hear PIL on Mathura’s Shahi Idgah mosque on Aug 23

Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court will hear on August 23 a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) praying for the acquisition of the entire land including Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah Mosque and granting the right of worship to Hindus by constituting a trust.

In his PIL, the petitioner and Supreme Court lawyer Mehak Maheshwari has stated that handing over 11.37 acres to the Janmabhoomi temple and the remaining 2.37 acres to Shahi Idgah out of 13.37 acres of land of Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura under an agreement was wrong. The petition has also sought direction for ASI to conduct a scientific survey.

The petition was heard by the division bench of Chief Justice Pritinkar Diwakar and Justice Ashutosh Srivastava. The bench directed the petitioner’s advocate to personally appear in the court and argue when it could not hear his arguments clearly due to poor internet connectivity.

Due to this, the hearing of the PIL praying for handing over the disputed premises of Shahi Idgah located near Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi to Hindus was deferred.

The petitioner has stated that Kansa’s prison, where Lord Krishna was born, existed at the place where the Shahi Idgah is located today, .The Shahi Idgah mosque has been built there after demolishing the temple, the petition claimed.
