Kolkata: There was more trouble in the embattled Jadavpur University as the Dean of Science Subinoy Chakraborty resigned on Sunday, a day after West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose appointed Dr Buddhadeb Sau as the interim Vice-Chancellor of the varsity.
Meanwhile, the city police arrested for more suspects in the August 10 mysterious death of a first year Bengali Honours student, official sources said.
Chakraborty, who was heading the JU’s internal probe in the alleged ragging that led to the death of the minor victim, reportedly submitted his resignation letter to the newly appointed interim VC, the sources said.
The Governor, the ex-officio Chancellor, on Saturday, appointed Professor Buddhadeb Sau, a faculty member with the mathematics wing, as the interim VC.
Jadavpur University, one of the prestigious educational institutions for higher studies in the country,. has had no Vice-Chancellor since August 4 after the then VC quit.
Meanwhile, with the arrest of four more suspects in the past 48 hours on August 10 “mysterious death”, altogether, thirteen accused, including present and former students, have been taken into city police custody so far, official sources said.
The teen-age student on his third day on the campus fell fatally from the 2nd floor of the hostel on August 9 night, and succumbed the following morning at a private hospital in south Kolkata. UNI
