New Delhi/Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu marked a significant moment by releasing a commemorative coin in honour of the late N T Rama Rao (NTR) on the occasion of his centenary year.
The event took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, the President lauded the immense contributions of the late N T Rama Rao, both to Indian cinema and culture through his Telugu films.
She emphasized how NTR brought to life the iconic characters from the Ramayana and Mahabharata through his unparalleled acting.
His portrayals of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna were so vivid that they garnered a following akin to religious worship.
The President highlighted that NTR’s acting also effectively conveyed the struggles of the common people, thus making him a symbol of their experiences.
She drew attention to one of his films, ‘Manushulanta Okkate’ (All Human Beings are Equal), which underscored the message of social justice and equality.
Expanding on NTR’s legacy, the President underlined his widespread popularity not only as an artist but also as a public servant and leader. She acknowledged his distinctive mark in Indian politics, achieved through his exceptional persona and unwavering dedication. NTR’s initiation of numerous public welfare programs left an indelible mark that continues to resonate.
The President expressed her appreciation for the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, for issuing the commemorative coin that pays tribute to NTR’s enduring impact.
She concluded by affirming that NTR’s unique persona would forever remain etched in the hearts of people, particularly those who belong to the Telugu-speaking community.
N T Rama Rao’s family members, including former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP National President N Chandrababu Naidu, Bhuvaneswarai, Nanadamuri Balakrishna, MLA, Vasundara, former Union minister Daggubati Purandeswari, Daggubati Venkateswar Rao, were present on the occasion.
