Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated Jammu University first Community Radio Station 91.2 FM – Dhwani JU here.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor congratulated the University of Jammu on the establishment of the Community Radio and expressed satisfaction that like other initiatives of the University, the Community Radio will also go a long way in serving the interests of the students and the community.
Sinha expressed satisfaction over the implementation of NEP-2020 by the University in its true spirit.
He further added that the last two years of the University of Jammu have been significant as various fruitful initiatives like Design Your Degree have been started by the University and this will go a long way in changing the course of education in India.
Referring to the popular programme “Man Ki Baat” by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the LG added that the radio can play a significant role not only in propagating the policies of the government but also seeking the feedback from the stakeholders for efficient formulation of the various Government policies.
Sinha shared that on the same lines, the programme “Awaam Ki Awaaz” has been started in J&K for efficient administration of the UT.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Umesh Rai stated that the Community Radio Station is a step towards University’s ‘Social Responsibility.’
The Community Radio platform will air various innovative programmes launched by the University under NEP-2020 and will also air programmes related to admissions/examinations etc, the Vice-Chancellor shared.
He further added that through its programmes based on social issues and community development, the Community Radio will establish close contact with civil society.
Prof Rai further said that the 91.2 FM – Dhwani JU will be run by the students.
The University students will work as radio jockeys, content creators and provide other logistic support. This would be done on the lines of “Earn while you Learn.”
Notably, University of Jammu is the first University in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to establish a Community Radio Station.
The Committee constituted for the establishment of the Community Radio Station included Prof Monika Sethi, Department of English, Dr Neeraj Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, Dr Garima Gupta, Department of English, Dr Shashi Prabha, Department of Geography, Dr Harish Dutt, Department of Botany, Deputy Registrar Finance, Dr Guneet Sudan, In-charge Services, Nagesh Jamwal, CAO and Dr Vinay THusoo, Public Relations Officer.
