Curfew imposed in Satara as one died, another injured in riots

Satara: Curfew was imposed in Pusesawali village of Khatav tehsil in the district after one person died and another was seriously injured in a riot that broke out between two groups late on Sunday night, following two youths of a community put an objectionable post on social media about a ‘Mahapurush’ (reverred personality).

As soon as the post went viral on social media, tension prevailed in Pusesawali village late last night as the mob of a community allegedly set vehicles and shops on fire and also vandalised a place of worship of a community. They also pelted stones on each other and on the houses.

In the stone-pelting incident, several people were injured, and they all were admitted to a hospital at Karad, where one Noor Hasan Shikalgar (30) succumbed to his injuries while another one was stated to be in a serious condition, police said.

Due to tension in the village, the district administration and police department shut down internet services and deployed heavy police force in Pusesawali to bring the situation under control.

For past two days there was tension in the village after the objectionable post went viral on social media. Though police had resolved the situation, the feud again erupted last night, and the situation once again deteriorated in the village.

After the deployment of heavy police force, the situation in the village and its surrounding areas is said to be under control, sources added.
