Suspicious IED detected, destroyed in north Kashmir

Srinagar: A suspected object, likely an improvised explosive device (IED) found in a bag, was defused in north Kashmir’s Handwara sub-district on Thursday , officials said.

They said a suspicious bag was found by the Army lying at Kralgund village on Handwara Baramulla highway after which traffic was halted and a bomb disposal squad was called.

” The suspected IED was blasted in a controlled explosion without causing any damage,” they said.

The traffic on the highway was later restored.

This is the second IED found and defused in north Kashmir in the last three days. On September 11, security forces defused an IED along the national highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. After the recovery, the Army had said that a major terror attack was averted.
