Security forces have been successful in achieving peace in the UT to a large extent: Outgoing DGP

Srinagar: The outgoing Director General of Police of J&K Police, Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said security forces have been successful in achieving peace in the Union territory to a large extent.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police gave a warm send off to its outgoing DGP in specially organized functions at Armed Police Complex Zewan, and later on at Police Headquarters, Srinagar. Singh, the chief guest, inspected the parade and received a salute.

In his farewell speech, Singh thanked his family members, all officers of Police, CAPFs, Army, media fraternity and other invitees from different parts of UT for attending the occasion.

He recalled his modest beginning of life and also mentioned names of the institutes from where he received education. He said he joined India Police Service in 1987 and on his posting to Jammu and Kashmir, the colleagues wished him good luck as the situation in Kashmir had turned volatile.
The outgoing DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police witnessed various challenges, situations and every time this force stood the ground and foiled those challenges with fortitude.
“Leading this brave force has been a great honour for him,” he added.

Reflecting on his tenure as the DGP, Singh expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the brave force.
“From SPO to higher rank officers, I treated everyone like a member of his Pariwar,” he added.

Singh said that when he took over as DGP there were challenges and with the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and other security forces peace was flourishing in Jammu and Kashmir, he added.

Singh reiterated that bringing peace back was a challenge but protecting it is an even bigger challenge. He, whoever, expressed his confidence in the potential of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, affirming that this force is capable of efficiently protecting the peace, lives and property of people.

Special DG Crime J&K, A.K Choudhary while reading the profile of outgoing officer said that under his leadership Jammu and Kashmir Police faced various challenges successfully and added that during the period around 1055 terrorists were killed, 58 terrorists surrendered, 1448 terrorist’s supporters were arrested.

“During the period the force has been honoured with 01 Ashok Chakra, 03 Kirti Chakra, 13 Shaurya Chakra and 887 Police medals,” he said.

He said that under his leadership, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has seen remarkable changes.

“For the first time during the last over three decades, there are no bandh calls, no hartals, education & businesses are not disturbed, people enjoying normal life and a number of good things are happening in the UT. He also threw light on various achievements of the force during the last four year. He said that during the period 11725 involved in drug trade were arrested and 98249 kilograms of Narcotic & Psychotropic Substances were seized including 741 kilogram heroin,” Choudhary said

He said that the investigation part of the J&K Police has been strengthened to a new level. New investigation units like State Investigation Agency (SIA), State Investigation Unit (SIU), Economic Offence Wing (EOW), Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) have been created.

The outgoing DGP was also given warm send off at PHQ at a function
R R Swain, who took over from Singh, said the outgoing DGP has always stood out in taking all people, colleagues, subordinates & personnel as one unit.

Swani said in J&K there are many stakeholders and Singh has always been to take along all of them.
