Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised awareness programs on “Hybrid Seed Production of Vegetable Crops” in Ganderbal district on Friday.
The three-entrepreneurship programme was held under the EAP scheme as an effort to provide awareness to vegetable growers or budding entrepreneurs about hybrid seed production of vegetable crops.
The training was organised by SKUAST-K’s Division of Vegetable Science under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The objective of this awareness program was to identify gaps in the startup ecosystem and develop strategies to create an enabling environment for scaling up successful agri-startups.
The training was conducted at three locations of Gutlibagh, Khranihama and Repore areas of District Ganderbal on separate dates during which fifty participants attended each program.
During the awareness program lectures were delivered by experts from the Division of Vegetable Science Dr Ummyiah H Masoodi, Dr Syed Berjes Zehra and Dr Asima Amin who highlighted different aspects/importance of hybrid seed production in vegetable crops like a scientific package of practice, seed extraction, seed drying, and packaging.
An idea about seed certification and branding was also provided to the participants.
