Host J&K emerges runners-up as Rajasthan becomes U-14 NSG Judo Champion

Jammu: Host Jammu and Kashmir emerged runners-up by clinching six medals with five silver and one bronze while Rajasthan emerged as the Champion and Haryana claimed the third place in the 67th National School Games Judo U-14 boys and girls, which concluded here at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu on Saturday.

Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chibber presided over the medal ceremony, while FA &CAO YSS/TE, Yasir Sharief was the chief guest on the occasion.

The dignitaries were accompanied by a galaxy of officers of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.

The budding Judokas drawn from across 30 States/UTs/ Units of the country showed stellar in showcasing their Judo skills.

On Saturday in Under-14 boys -50 kg category, J&K’s Rashid Hilal Beigh clinched silver medal as he lost to Ramavath Tharun of Telangana in the final bout, who bagged gold medal in this category. The bronze medal went to Abhay Yadav of Maharashtra and Ashwin A of Tamil Nadu.

In girls Under-14 -44 kg, Anjum Akthar of Jammu and Kashmir won silver, while the gold medal was bagged by Khuventhem Monica Devi of Manipur. The bronze went to Ayush S of Uttar Pradesh and Daksha Naik of Maharashtra.

J&K’s Aisha Hassan along with Rinku Gurgur of Rajasthan claimed bronze medal in U-14 girls -44 kg category. Taniya Das of Tripura won gold and Charanjot Kour of Chandigarh claimed Silver.

On Friday, in boys U-14 -40 kg, Garv Tokas of Delhi bagged gold, while Sheikh Mohammad Shraim of Jammu and Kashmir won silver medal. Jatin Kashyap of Uttar Pradesh and Varneet Singh of Punjab claimed bronze medals in this category.

In boys U-14 -35 kg, Shivam of Uttar Pradesh bagged gold, while Soumya Sain of Rajasthan clinched silver. The bronze medal in this category went to Kartik of Uttarakhand and Isan of Chhattisgarh.

In boys Under-14 -45 kg, Satish Dangi of Rajasthan clinched gold, Krishan Kumar Mal of Vidhya Bharti bagged silver and the bronze medal went to Yash of Haryana and Sachin of Chandigarh.

Though, all the committees framed for smooth conduct of 67th National School Games in the discipline of Judo U-14 boys and girls did a great job in making the event a grand success, yet the Coaches of J&K team headed by the Chief Coach- Varinder Sharma and other Coaches including Raman Sharma, Rajive Kumar, Sanjay Khajuria and Rohit Sadhotra did an excellent job with J&K team and also in facilitating the participating players and the officials at the venue. They worked day-in and day-out for making the event a grand success.

The efforts of technical officials from Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council namely Suraj Bhan Singh, Arshi Nad and Ritika Slathia were also worth appreciation during the competitions.

Notably, a total of 387 Judokas took part in this mega event, including 197 boys and 190 girls, besides around 80 officials.

The Games were organised by the Directorate of YS & Sports J&K, under the auspices of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).

Meanwhile, Director Youth Services and Sports convened a meeting of Officers of the Department and the Conveners of various committees and finalised the arrangements for the grand Closing Ceremony of these Nationals scheduled for November 24.
