Washington: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on Monday that Sam Altman, former chief executive of ChatGPT developer OpenAI, and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman had been hired to lead a new research team on artificial intelligence.
“We’re extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success,” Nadella wrote on social media.
The announcement comes shortly after several media reported that talks at OpenAI to rehire Altman as CEO after his shock firing on Friday failed. Altman was kicked out by the tech firm’s board after it accused him of not being “consistently candid in communications.” Brockman, who served as OpenAI president, was also removed from the board and quit the company. Former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said on Monday that he accepted OpenAI’s offer to become its interim CEO.
Altman acknowledged his new position at Microsoft on social media by reposting Nadella’s statement with a response that “the mission continues.” Brockman likewise admitted he was joining the US tech giant saying “We are going to build something new & it will be incredible.”
