Committed to take archery to new heights in J&K: Association

Jammu: Congratulating ace para acrchers Sheetal Devi from Kishtwar and Rakesh Kumar from Reasi districts for their outstanding performance in the recently concluded Asian Archery Championship at Bangkok in Thailand, Archery Association of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday said that the body is determined to take archery to new heights in the Union Territory.
As per the handout issued here, Archery Association of J&K (AAJK) officials stated that in support of J&K Sports Council, they are at forefront in motivating the para archers by felicitating their trips to national and international level to get national and international exposure.
“The association is trying its best to expose more archers to this game as J&K has no dearth of talent and para-archer Sheetal Devi has already become an inspiration to several youngsters,” said an official.
Notably, both Sheetal and Rakesh have won six Medals (5 Gold and one silver) in international events.
In the recently held state level championship, both players and their Coaches (Abhilasha Choudhary) were given a cash reward of Rs.50,000 each and Rs 25,000 for their outstanding performance in Asian games at China by AAJK.
The association also congratulated budding archer Niteen Sharma of Jammu who won Silver Medal at the recently held Junior National Championship at Bharatpur (Rajasthan).
The AAJK also organized an event on November 20 and distributed uniforms to players and coaches selected for the Senior National Archery Championship scheduled from November 24 to 30 at Ayodhya, (UP).
President and Senior Vice President, Sunil Sharma and Gen Secretary extended wishes to the 21-member squad and their coaches.
