CBI arrests two BSNL officials in alleged bribery case

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Principal General Manager and an SDE, both working in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), posted in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal in a bribery case, the Central probe agency said on Tuesday.

A case was registered on the basis of a complaint against Rakesh Yadav an SDE and Mahendra Singh a Principal General Manager on the allegations of demanding undue advantage from Complainant, CBI said.

It was alleged that a chargesheet for departmental disciplinary action was issued to the Complainant by PGM and the further proceedings in the matter were pending. It was further alleged that the SDE demanded undue advantage of Rs 40 thousand from Complainant and informed him that the PGM of BSNL had demanded the said bribe for amicable settlement of pending chargesheet in his favour, CBI claimed in its statement.

“It was also alleged that said SDE told the Complainant that in case, he would not pay the demanded bribe, then PGM would take strict action against him.

The SDE also allegedly informed the Complainant that the PGM had asked to initially pay an amount of Rs 15 thousand out of total bribe of Rs 40 thousand and rest of the amount can be given subsequently,” CBI statement claimed.

CBI laid a trap and caught the PGM while accepting alleged bribe of Rs 15 thousand from Complainant.

Searches were conducted at the premises of PGM at Bhopal which led to recovery of cash Rs 8 lakh, 240.5 g Gold and 1915 g silver items, and incriminating documents, it added.

Later, the SDE was also caught. During search at the premise of SDE, incriminating documents and locker key were recovered, it said.
