Arunachal Guv calls for strengthening security apparatus in insurgency-infested TCL districts

Itanagar: In the backdrop of recent killing of former MLA Yumsen Matey in eastern Arunachal district of Tirap, Governor Lt General (Retd) KT Parnaik on Saturday called for strengthening the security apparatus in the insurgency-infested Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL) districts.
The Governor discussed ways and means to strengthen the security in TCL districts with the Sector Commander of Assam Rifles, who called on him at Raj Bhavan here.
He called upon the Commander to spruce up the system in militant affected areas in coordination with the central paramilitary forces and Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP).
Further, Parnaik suggested implementation of measures to share real-time intelligence with the security forces including the APP personnel deployed in TCL districts to stamp out the anti-national elements and restore peace in the region.
The Commander briefed the Governor on the security scenario of the TCL region and various issues including goodwill projects of the Force.
He assured Parnaik of the proactive role of the Assam Rifles in maintaining law and order in the Eastern Arunachal, a communique from the Raj Bhavan said.
It may be mentioned that following the assassination of the former Khonsa West MLA by suspected Naga militants on December 16 at Raho village in Tirap district along the Indo-Myanmar border, the State’s apex students’ body AAPSU raised the demand for initiating stringent steps to push out the different insurgent groups operating in the TCL region and sealing of the international borders.
