Any tampering with Article 370, Art 35-A will render Treaty of Accession null & void: Mehbooba

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said any tampering with Article 35 A and Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, will render treaty of Accession null and void.

Ms Mehbooba, who was the chief minister in previous PDP-BJP government, said those frothing at the mouth and calling for its removal shouldn’t blame Kashmiris for the developments that will follow such a hare brained decision.
“Valley rife with speculation about status of Article 35. Before taking a decision, GoI must consider that J&K was the only Muslim majority state that chose a secular India over Pak during partition,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
She said Article 370 is the Constitutional connection between J&K and the Indian Union. “Instrument of accession is contingent on Article 370 which is inextricably linked to Article 35 A,” she said, adding any tampering will render Treaty of Accession null & void.
