RBI removes restrictions imposed on Diners Club International

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday removed restrictions imposed on Diners Club International with regards to on-boarding of fresh domestic customers with immediate effect.

The central bank said that the decision was taken in view of the card company’s satisfactory compliance with its circular on storage of payment system data.

“In view of the satisfactory compliance demonstrated by Diners Club International Ltd. with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular dated April 6, 2018 on Storage of Payment System Data, the restrictions imposed, vide order dated April 23, 2021, on on-boarding of fresh domestic customers have been lifted with immediate effect,” the RBI said.

The RBI had through an order dated April 23, 2021 imposed restrictions on Diners Club International from on-boarding new domestic customers onto its card network from May 1, 2021 for non-compliance with its 2018 circular on storage of payment system data.

Diners Club International is a direct banking and payment services company owned by Discover Financial Services. It provides a range of payment options, benefits and offers in partnership with leading merchants, restaurants and service-industry brands around the world.
