Twitter on recovering Modi’s Twitter handle: ‘We have 24X7 open lines of communication with the PM’s Office’

New Delhi: Micro-blogging site Twitter on Sunday said that it took necessary steps to secure the compromised account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as soon as the issue was flagged to them.

“We have 24X7 open lines of communication with the PM’s Office and our teams took necessary steps to secure the compromised account as soon as we became aware of this activity,” Twitter told UNI in an email response.

“Our investigation has revealed that there are no signs of any other impacted accounts at this time,” it added.

The personal twitter handle of PM Modi was compromised in the wee hours of Sunday but was recovered after Twitter team’s swift action.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, “The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured.”

In the brief period that the account was compromised, any tweet shared must be ignored, his office said.

PM Modi is among the world’s most popular public figures on Twitter and has over 73 million followers on his personal twitter handle.
