Srinagar: A religious body that looks after the Srinagar’s Jamia mosque here said no congregational Friday prayers were allowed again by the authorities.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar expressed deep sorrow and regret that even on the first Friday of 2022, the authorities “hurt” people’s sentiments by preventing them from fulfilling their religious obligation of praying at Jammu and Kashmir’s largest spiritual centre – the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
The Anjuman said it is the 23rd consecutive Friday when the pulpit of the Jamia Masjid was kept silent and also the religious obligation like Jumma prayers could not be performed.
“Under a well planned policy, continuously preventing the people from performing important religious duties like Friday prayers at the Jama Masjid is a serious violation of fundamental religious rights as well as interference in religion,” the statement said.
While congregational Friday are not being allowed, the authorities have been allowing the prayers the other six days at the central mosque.
