Widespread light to moderate rain, snow over J&K during next 24 hours: MeT

Srinagar: Intermittent light rain lashed at many places of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday while Meteorological Department predicts widespread light to moderate rain in plains and snow over higher reaches during the next 24 hours.

Currently the weather is overcast with intermittent light to moderate rain at many places of Kashmir valley and cloudy with light rain at isolated places of Jammu region, the MeT office said.

It said there could be a brief spell of Rain or thunderstorm at scattered places towards evening on May 3 while fair to partly cloudy with brief spell of Rain or thunderstorm may occur towards late afternoon or evening from May 4 to 6.

The MeT office also predicted rain at many Places on May 7-8 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar and its adjoining areas lashed by light rains this morning disrupting normal activities. Presently the sky is overcast and more rain is likely to occur during the day.

Srinagar recorded a low of 10.6 degree Celsius against 11.3 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 0.9 degree Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the maximum temperature was 2.5 degree Celsius below normal of 22.3 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

Qazigund recorded a low of 9.0 degree Celsius against 7.8 degree Celsius a day ago and it was 0.5 degree Celsius above normal for the gateway of Kashmir.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 6.5 degree Celsius against 4.7 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 1.6 degree Celsius above normal for the famous tourist hot spot in south Kashmir.

Kokernag recorded a low of 8.3 degree Celsius against 7.7 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.1 below normal for the picnic spot of south Kashmir.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.9 degree Celsius against 4.0 degree Celsius a day ago and it was 0.4 degree Celsius below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Kupwara recorded a low of 8.1 degree Celsius against 8.7 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.3 degree Celsius below normal for the north Kashmir area, the MeT office said.
