2 LeT associated held in Sopore, IED recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police alongwith security forces have arrested two militants associates linked with LeT in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla and recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition and IED from their possession, officials said.

“Based on a specific input regarding presence of two suspected individuals near Saidpora Bypass area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (22 RR) and CRPF (179 Bn) in the area,” police said in a statement to GNS, “During the search operation, 02 suspected individuals were spotted trying to run away in an attempt to break the cordon. Assessing the situation, the vigilant troops displayed situational awareness, extreme restraint and exceptional fire control in not opening the fire”. Subsequently, it said, both the suspected individuals were arrested on the spot. They have been identified as Kaiser Manzoor Mir son of Manzoor Ahmad resident of Behl Mohalla Saidpora and Muzaffar Majeed Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir resident of Shalpora, Brat Kalan.

“During initial questioning, both the arrested accused persons confessed that they were working as associates for local active (militant) Bilal Ahmad Mir resident of Brath Kalan Sopore linked with LeT.”

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 15 Pistol rounds, 25 AK-47 rounds, one IED and two Hand Grenades were recovered from their possession, it said.

“A case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station and further investigation is in progress.” (GNS)
