India football team’s FIFA rank declines to 121

New Delhi:The Indian men’s football team’s latest FIFA ranking of 121 denotes a significant decline, marking its worst ranking in recent years. This drop follows a disappointing 1-2 loss against Afghanistan during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers held in Guwahati last month.

Under the guidance of coach Igor Stimac, the Indian team made strides by breaking into the top 100 last year. However, recent performances, including losses in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and the defeat against Afghanistan, have led to this sharp decline in rankings.

Despite a recent victory against Kuwait in the World Cup qualifiers, the team’s poor showing in the AFC Asian Cup, where they failed to score a single goal and ended at the bottom of their group, has significantly contributed to their fall.

Calls for changes within the team management have surfaced following the disappointing results, especially after the loss against Afghanistan in the recent qualifiers.

It’s important to highlight that India’s worst-ever FIFA ranking was 173.

On a global scale, Argentina, the reigning champions, maintain their top position in the FIFA rankings, with France, England, Belgium, and Brazil following closely behind. The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Croatia complete the top 10 teams in the rankings. UNI
