Srinagar: With Srinagar’s iconic Lal Chowk emerging as a battlefield for mainstream parties, the BJP on Thursday said that they transformed Lal Chowk Clock Tower from a symbol of separatism to a vibrant political hub.
Two major parties Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) held political gatherings at the Clock Tower in Lal Chowk.
“Till July 2019, Clock Tower, (Ghanta Ghar) was known for being the hub of anti-national activities, secessionist rallies and anti national sloganeering, but things took a swift turn post-August 5, 2019 when Centre scrapped Article 370,” BJP leader Altaf Thakur said.
“Since then, Clock Tower, Lal Chowk emerged as a selfie point for locals and tourists and now as elections are going on, the spot has become a political hot spot as leaders from NC, PDP and Congress carrying out political activities from the same spot,” Thakur added.
“Rahul Gandhi unfurled tri-colour at the same spot which wasn’t possible at all earlier. Now these parties including Congress should thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for this huge transition and a big change Kashmir has witnessed,” he said, adding “this is still the beginning and more is in the offing.”
