US libertarian party says Trump accepted invite to address national convention

Washington: The US Libertarian Party said on Wednesday that former US President and presumptive 2024 Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump accepted their invitation to attend the Libertarian National Convention later this month.

On April 25, the Libertarian National Committee sent letters to both Trump and US President Joe Biden, inviting them to address the party’s national convention, which is scheduled for May 23–26.

On Wednesday, the Libertarian Party said via social media platform X that they received a response from Trump.

“I’m in,” Trump said, as quoted by the party.

Libertarian National Committee Chair Angela McArdle said last month that the party has been trying to get on the debate stage with the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates for decades.

However, the party decided to “flip the tables” and invite the candidates to its convention, McArdle said.

The Libertarian Party’s website describes the organisation as opposed to any government interference in personal, family, and business decisions. The party received approximately 1% of votes in the 2020 US presidential election and 3% in the 2016 race.
