MHRD earmarks Rs 1957 Cr budget for elementary, secondary, teacher Edu for JK

Of total budget, Rs 883.33 Cr are from spillover funds

Srinagar: The Government of India (GoI) has estimated a budget of over Rs 1957 Crores for elementary, Secondary and Teacher education of Jammu and Kashmir for academic year 2020-21.

The total budget estimated for the academic year 2020-21 includes fresh allocations of Rs 1073.67 Crores and spillover amount of Rs 883.33 Crores.

The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has learnt that among the total fresh amount estimated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Rs 990.25 Crore are the recurring funds and Rs 83.42 Crore are non-recurring funds.

This information was revealed by the MHRD Project Approval Board (PAB) in a meeting held earlier under the chairmanship of Secretary for School Education and Literacy in New Delhi to consider the Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWPB), 202O-21 for the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

The official figures reveal that for elementary level, the MHRD has estimated a total of Rs 1031.52 Crores that includes fresh recurring and non-recurring amounts to the tune of Rs 890.33 Crores and Rs 141.18 Crores from the spillover funds.

Similarly for the secondary level, the MHRD has estimated a total of Rs 890.18 Crores that includes fresh recurring and non-recurring amounts to the tune of Rs 159.89 Crores and Rs 730.28 Crores from the spillover funds.

Likewise for the teacher education, the MHRD has estimated a total of Rs 35.31 Crores that includes fresh recurring and non-recurring amounts to the tune of Rs 23.44 Crores and Rs 11.86 Crores from the spillover funds.

MHRD said that against the estimates, the Central Government shall provide to the UT Government, Rs 132021.74 lakh as its share including Rs 81037.53 lakh for elementary, Rs. 47816.05 lakh for secondary and senior secondary and Rs 3168.16 lakh for Teacher Education.

“The UT would contribute Rs. 14669.08 lakh as its UT share matching the Central share as per the existing fund sharing pattern of Samagra Shiksha,” it said.

In the meeting it was further said that the JK UT will also be able to utilize their unspent balances as on March-31-2020 for the activities approved in 2020-21, including spillover—(KNO)
