NSUI launches nationwide campaign to ‘save education’

New Delhi: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student’s wing of Congress, launched a nationwide campaign to save education on Thursday on the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India.
NSUI President Neeraj Kundan said the campaign will be launched across the country, wherein interactions will be held with students and protests will also be held against against the BJP government’s national education policy.
“Our campaign is named ‘save education, save India’. The way everything is being privatised, students will be the group that will be the most impacted,” stated Kundan.
He said the National Education Policy was brought in “from the backdoor” at a time when the country was dealing with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Now that colleges are opening, we will go to the students with the issues and confusion related to NEP,” he said. The NSUI chief also accused the government of corruption in conducting exams like the NEET and SSC.
He also said that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, age relaxation should be done in competitive exams as many students lost opportunities due to the pandemic.
He also highlighted the issue of unemployment.
“Giving two crore jobs has been a far-fetched thing, through schemes like GST and demonetisation (implemented without thinking), the work of snatching crores of jobs has been done by the present dispensation. This is not my house report, it is their official report, which says that today, the unemployment rate is highest in independent India,” he said.
“Programmes will be organised across the country and will culminate in a big protest in Delhi,” he added.
The 133rd birth anniversary of freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was celebrated on Thursday.
The birth anniversary of Azad is celebrated as ‘National Education Day’ every year on November 11. He was the first Education Minister of the country.
