Waheed Parra leader granted bail by HC

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party leader Waheed Parra who was jailed for alleged terror links, was granted bail on Wednesday, his counsel said on Wednesday.

“Waheed Para was granted bail by HC. Order of trial court set aside. Had the onerous duty to lead his defence and argue his bail appeal. Waheed walks out after more than a year in custody,” Parra’s lawyer Shariq Reyaz said.

The High Court today directed the Superintendent, Central Jail, Srinagar, to release Parra, provided he is not involved in any other case. The appellant has to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh with a surety of the like amount.

PDP leader Parra was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in November, 2020 in a terror case. He was granted bail in January 2021 . However, he was instantly re-arrested by the J&K police and remained under detention for more than a year.

PDP president Mehbboba Mufti hoped that he would walk out as a free man soon.

“Finally after almost two years, Waheed Para gets bail & I hope he walks out as a free man soon. Would like to thank his lawyer Shariq for fighting his case with such conviction & determination,” she tweeted.

Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone said the bail granted to Parra is good news.

“What a good news that Wahid Parra has been granted bail. My ex-jail mate and youthful friend. He has been through tough times. I am so happy for him and his family. May Allah bless him,” Lone tweeted.
