Non-Local Worker Shot Dead In Bijbhera; We Will Hunt Down Perpetrators, Says LG

Srinagar: A non-local worker was shot dead by militants in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

They told GNS the gunmen fired upon Raja Shah son of Shankar resident of Bihar from point blank range at Jablipora in Bijbehara area, resulting in critical injuries to him.

Raja Shah was rushed to SDH Bijbehara in critical condition after receiving two bullets, one in neck and other in abdomen, however he succumbed to injuries, they said.

Earlier on April 8, a non-local driver was shot at and injured in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The taxi driver, Paramjit Singh, a resident of Delhi, was fired upon in Heerpora, Shopian, and got injured. He was admitted to hospital and is recuperating.

These incidents have taken place in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency which is going to polls in the third phase on May 7. (GNS)

Meanwhile Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha condemned the attack in Bijbehara, Anantnag today. He has conveyed his condolences to the family of the martyred civilian Raja Shah, a resident of Bihar.

The Lt Governor said: No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Bijbehara, Anantnag, targeting Raja Shah, a resident of Bihar, according to an official communiqué.

“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family of the innocent civilian martyred in this cowardly attack. Entire nation stands in solidarity with the family in this hour of grief”, he  said, adding, “We have full faith in the unparalleled valour of J&K Police and security forces, and I assure the people that terrorists responsible for this barbaric act will have to pay a very heavy price” he said. The LG further said that “we will hunt down the perpetrators and crush those elements, who are aiding and abetting the terrorists.” (GNS)
