Srinagar: Rainfall in plains and light snow on mountains continued for the second day in Kashmir, with temperatures dropping across the valley on Friday.
The data available with the MeT office said Srinagar received 6.6mm of rainfall, Qazigund 2.7mm, Pahalgam 19.3mm, Kupwara 18.7mm, Kokernag 4.8mm, and Gulmarg 28.2mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
It was raining at Srinagar and some other parts of Kashmir Valley, while some upper reaches experienced light snowfall on Friday.
Currently, the weather is generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms over most parts of Kashmir and light rain or thunderstorms at isolated places in Jammu Division.
The weather will remain generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain or thunderstorms (light snow over higher reaches) at most places in J&K on April 19, while there is a possibility of light rain at scattered places on April 20, the MeT office said.
From April 21–25, the weather will remain generally dry, with afternoon thundershower activity at isolated places that can’t be ruled out, and from April 26–28, there is a possibility of light rain or thundershower at many places.
The MeT office has advised farmers to resume farm operations after April 21.
The inclement weather can temporarily disrupt surface transportation over a few higher reaches, and besides, a few low-lying areas could be waterlogged.
The general public is advised not to venture out near streams, Nallahs, and other water bodies during the next 2 days, the MeT office warned.
It said there is a possibility of landslides or mudslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places.
The day temperatures witnessed a drop in Kashmir Valley and recorded 3–7 degrees Celsius below normal on Thursday. Barring Gulmarg, the night temperature also slipped down but stayed above normal in all weather stations in Kashmir Valley during the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday.
The minimum temperature recorded at Srinagar during the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday was 9.2 degree Celsius against the 12.5 degree Celsius. However, it was 1.3 degree Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 4.8 degree Celsius against the 7.2 degree Celsius the previous night and it was 1.4 degree Celsius above normal for south Kashmir’s tourist spot.
Kupwara had a low of 7.5 degree Celsius against the 10.9 degree Celsius recorded a day ago, and it was 1.4 degree Celsius above normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
Gulmarg settled at 1.6 degree Celsius against the 3.2 degree Celsius on previous night and it was 0.7 degree Celsius below normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
