Farooq expresses concern over flood like situation in Kashmir

Srinagar: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah expressed concern on Monday over the havoc caused by the incessant rains that triggered a flood-like situation in Kashmir Valley.

Farooq and NC Vice President Omar Abdullah also expressed profound anguish over the situation arising from the continued rainfall since the past few days that triggered landslides and flash floods in several parts, including Kupwara, Poonch, and Ramban districts of J&K.

The duo has asked the administration to come to the rescue of affected households from the flash flood, landslide across Kashmir and Jammu provinces.

They also urged the authorities to provide all necessary help, including monetary compensation, shelter, and food items, to the affected families.

“After a complete assessment of damaged crops and agricultural land, compensation will be provided to affected farmers and horticulturalists,” he said, demanding “immediate restoration of all main arterials and link roads on a priority basis.”

“The concerned departments must release immediate preliminary relief in terms of free rations and financial assistance in favour of the victims until a survey is conducted to ascertain the actual losses,” they said.
