To strengthen the bonhomie between the Army and Citizens of Keran and to add colours and vibrancy in the life of the villagers residing in the remote areas of Keran Sector, Keran Mela is being organised by the Army every year. This year, to celebrate the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ the installation of 72 ft high monumental National Flag right at the Line of Control in Keran marked the commencement of the annual event. It also included sports events like Cricket, Volleyball, Athletics, 10 kms Marathon and Tug of War competitions besides cultural programmes for the villages of the Keran Sector. This year’s special attraction was a 5 Kms Women’s Walkathon which witnessed a high level of excitement and participation from the girls of the valley. Like every year, this year also the Cricket Tournament witnessed a very active and zealous participation of teams from various parts of Keran Sector besides teams from areas of Kupwara district.

Recognizing the fragility of Keran’s ecological balance, the Indian Army has actively participated in environmental conservation initiatives. Afforestation drives, waste management campaigns, and awareness programs have been organized to preserve the region’s natural beauty.
